Trod Upon Us With Triumphal Entry
With branches of palm they welcomed him. A crowd receiving their Lord. No chariots. No trumpets. No robe. No carpet. Just a donkey, the cloaks of friends, and proclamations of those who believe. Not the expected entry of a King. But the Son of God doesn’t seek grandiose receptions. Only genuine welcome.
And so we lay down our garments, we lay down our life. This is how we welcome you. In the submission of our will.
And we lay down our cut branches in hopes you will graft us into you. This is how we receive you. In the knowing that you will receive us.
And we announce our need for you. Hosanna to the Son of David! Come save us! This is how we meet you. In the acknowledgement of our brokenness.
And we offer our praise. Blessed be the name of the one who comes in the name of the Lord. This is how we embrace you. In the worship of our lips, of our life.
And we shout your name among the crowds, among the world. This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth. This is how we greet you. In the proclamation of who you are.
Come, Lord Jesus. Come. Trod upon us with triumphal entry.
Approach our cities and weep over what we didn’t know. Hem us in on every side so our enemies won’t be able to.
Enter our temples and turn over our sin. And make our body a house of prayer.
Heal our blindness. What is hidden from our eyes, what we choose not to see. And restore our walk to righteousness.
May our children sing your praises.
We receive you today, knowing that Friday comes. We’ll follow you there to that hill, the best we know how. Believing that resurrection follows. For you. For us.
